Character Creation 5: Isaac's Blank Slate

The last person in his group to make a character, Isaac has no clue what he wants. After a little consideration and a jolt of inspiration, he deciees he'll make a literal blank slate; an amnesiac clone with psychic powers, probably. Someone really weird like that. All their other skills would be left to fate, an assortment of programmed memories and abilities designed to make him useful.

  • The dice do not treat Isaac well, and indeed, things are looking bleak, but perhaps perfect for a sad and strange little clone all alone in a wider world. He rolls:
    Strength: 8
    Dexterity: 14
    Constitution: 6
    Intelligence: 10
    Wisdom: 10
    Charisma 8

With every ability score being average or on the lower end, a bad Constitution, and a good Dexterity, Isaac decides to up the Constitution to 14, completely removing that weakness, and thereby declaring that his clone is a bit resilient, also knowing that any psychic needs either a good Constitution or Wisdom.

  • For his background, Fred comes to the sad realization that "just a test tube and a womb with a view" was never considered among the options. Talking over it with his DM, and looking at what's available, he winds up picking the Dilettente option, which doesn't exactly fit, but works well as a "you could be anything" sort of background. This gives him the Connect skill; something about his clone just makes him fit in everywhere, he can always find a friend. With pretty abysmal scores, none that could be easily improved anyway, he then chooses to roll 3 times on the Learning chart. Any Skill, Perform, and Know. Isaac decides that whoever made this clone filled his brain with esoteric knowledge of the sciences (though perhaps it's a bit fragmented), and had a taste for opera, so this clone has been given a voice that could shatter glass. For his "Any Skill," Isaac decides to keep the weird train going and gives him Program; perhaps the digital education process within the cloning vat rubbed off on him a little.
  • Isaac chooses Psychic as his class, because he wants his clone to feel a little strange..
  • With only one focus to choose, none are standing out to Isaac as much as Psychic training, supercharging his clone's supernatural abilities. This will give him one more Psychic skill rank, and one more point of maximum Effort
  • Looking at his clone's' skills; Connect 0, Perform 0, know 0, and Program 0, Isaac uses his extra skill rank to up Program to 1.
  • As a Psychic, Isaac's character can have either two Psychic skills at level 0, or have one at level 1, with an added technique, and Psychic Training gets him an additional rank. With the available choices, he picks level 1 in Precognition, deciding that his characrer gets strange visions and precognitive flashes, which he considers to be deja vu from his time in the cloning tank. This gives him the Oracle ability, and one technique of his choice, and he chooses Terminal Reflection. For his additional pick, he chooses Telekinesis at rank 0, giving him the Telekinetic Manipulation ability. For his maximum Effort, he writes down 3; 1 by default, 1 for a good Con score, and 1 for having Psychic Training.
  • Rolling 1d6+1 for hit points, Isaac rolls a 2, totalling to 3. Not the greatest, but he can do his best to play safe in fights.
  • Isaac notes his Base Attack BOnus as +0 for being a psychic
  • Looking at the equipment packs, Isaac likes the look of the hacker, writing down the Laser Pistol, 2 Type A Energy Cells, Secure Clothing, a Dataslab, a Postech Toolkit, a Metatool, 2 Line Shunts (useful for hacking), 3 units of Spare Parts, and 100 spare credits.
  • The Laser Pistol deals 1d6+1 points of damage due to the clone's high Dexterity, with an attack bonus of -1 (-2 for no Shoot skill, +1 from Dexterity), a range of 100/300, a Magazine size of 10, and an Encumbrance of 1
  • Wearing Secured Clothing grants a base AC of 13, +1 Dexterity turns that into a 14
  • For saving throws, Isaac records 14 for the Physical save, 14 for Evasion, and 15 for Mental.
  • Needing a name, Isaac takes a cue from Andre and randomly generates a first name from the book, rolling a d10 for the culture and a d100 for the first name, generating the Chinese name "Niu". Looking into it a little, he finds that the book is probably wrong, and it looks like Niu is exclusively a girl's name and/or a surname. Taking it anyway, he generates a random number for his "surname", coming up with "172". Niu-172 is ready for duty and needing a goal, which Isaac decides is to find his creator, or the person he's a genetic clone of if that's someone else. And with that, everyone at the party has a fully fledged character, forming a real band of misfits.
